Dry Pumps for Analytical Instruments

Rotary vane pumps have been used in lab  analytical  instruments and experimentation since the rotary vane pump was originally patented. There have been great improvements in pump technology over the years,  but the dry pump was not perfected until precision instrumentation in manufacturing processes provided for the fashioning of scroll technology.

Scientists and technicians quickly realized that dry pumps come with great benefits which far outweigh the extra price.  Dry vacuum pumps are now  popularly used as fore-pumps to turbo-molecular pumps in various lab and analytical applications. Our scroll pumps are ideal for these applications due to 100% oil free design, minimal vibration, low noise and no maintenance.

The isentropic efficiency of a scroll compressor is higher than that of a typical reciprocating compressor. Scroll compressors are more efficient  because they do not have a dynamic discharge valve that introduces throttling losses. The scroll compression process is nearly 100% volumetrically efficient for pumping trapped fluid.

Laboratory Applications / Analytical Instruments

  • Gas evacuation
  • Leak detection
  • Vacuum ovens
  • Rotary evaporation
  • Freeze drying
  • Sputter coating devices
  • Sensing electronic Microscope
  • Distillation processes
  • Mass spectrometers

Our Recommendation

We recommend the larger SVF-100 as a backup pump for rotary evaporators , vacuum ovens and freeze dryers.

For portable mass spectrometers we suggest using the SVF-5 or SVF-2 vacuum pumps due to their compact size and ability to reach down to 0.01 mbars and less.
